Welcome to G100 Security and Defence - Ontario

It is a thrill and an honour to become the Ontario Chair of the G100 Security and Defence Wing. Thank you to Bodil Valero, the Global Chair of the Security and Defence Wing, and Harbeen Arora, the Founder of G100, for the invitation and your faith in my ability to carry out your important mandate and mission. I will do my utmost to support and further the goal of providing advocacy and awareness in governments and organizations around the world on gender equity.
The G100 is a phenomenal organization that seeks to empower and uplift women in different industries and sectors all around the world. One hundred Global Chairs of one hundred wings each seek to build a powerful network of advocacy, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, providing opportunities for gender equity in as many areas globally as possible.
For me, Security and Defence through a gender lens relates not only to the narrower scope of military conflicts, war and armaments, but also to climate justice, economic stability, and human security. Much of my work will be focused on the defence of marginalized genders in environmental justice, reproductive and precarious labour, community development, global security and the social economy. This will take the form of speaking engagements, statements and publications, interviews, events and global collaborations.
In the world, we face a climate crisis with fires, droughts, floods, and typhoons that have impacted everyone on a global scale. We wake up to news of armed conflicts every day and cyber attacks are becoming the weapon of choice. In Canada, not only have the wildfires devasted our forests and agricultural industry, but we are still discovering unmarked graves at former residential schools and fighting to search landfills for the remains of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls. This holiday season, we are faced with record-breaking food shortages and an ever-growing housing crisis. Marginalized genders are more severely impacted by the local and global challenges that are so prevalent nowadays, and it is the mission of this sector of the G100 to provide a platform that can support, promote and amplify these important voices.
